Prologue
Katie pulled herself from Keith’s embrace and headed towards the bathroom. She knew the tears staining his cheeks were fake - he had no soul. She walked in the bathroom and closed the door behind her. Turning, she saw the small brown bag on the sink. In it, she found a pair of grey scissors he used to trim the end of his bangs in between haircuts. She leaned her back against the sink and closed her eyes, asking God to forgive her, but her eyes immediately opened when she felt the blade slice her skin. She screamed a little, losing her balance and slipping onto the floor; her head banged hard against the sink. Her vision immediately blurred. She heard a pounding sound, while wood fell on the floor. Her head was lifted until she could see Keith’s piercing blue eyes — his tears poured onto her face. “Katie,” she heard as his eyes faded from her vision, but she could still hear his voice, and feel his arms grasping her until all senses were gone.
